UK TOUR - SHEFFIELD

  • City Hall Barker's Pool Sheffield United Kingdom (map)

Making a rare appearance in the Sheffield International Concert Season, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra showcases two artists with which it has close links: in the first of two appearances this season, the orchestra’s Principal Conductor Sergey Smbatyan opens the concert with a violin concerto written by Alexey Shor, Composer-in-Residence for the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Academy and the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra. Consisting of four titled movements, Seascapes is a gorgeously melodic, programmatic work that at times creates a great storm raging on the shore. It will be performed by ‘one of the greatest violinists in the world’ (Classic FM), Maxim Vengerov, who also takes the solo role in Prokofiev’s First Violin Concerto, with its rhythmic centre and lyrical outer movements.
