UK TOUR - CAMBRIDGE

  • Cambridge Corn Exchange 2 Wheeler Street Cambridge United Kingdom (map)

Widely acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest living string players, violinist Maxim Vengerov has spent 40 years performing on stage. First making headlines as a child prodigy, he studied with Galina Tourchaninova and Zakhar Bron, becoming a solo violinist at the age of five and making his first recording at the age of 10. Since then, he has gone on to win Grammy and Gramophone artist of the year awards, and was recently appointed Classic FM’s first ever solo Artist in Residence. Vengerov shall be teaming up with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra – Malta’s oldest and largest professional ensemble – for a programme featuring Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.1, written during the 1917 Revolution, alongside Rachmaninov’s triumphant return to symphonic composition, and Ukraine-born contemporary composer Alexey Shor’s tonal and romantic work, Seascapes – a sublime piece in four movements for violin and orchestra. At the helm is the MPO’s celebrated Principal Conductor, Sergey Smbatyan.
